The technology landscape is being rewritten every 3-5 years. A 21st Century Government Advisory Council (Council) will be formed to provide feedback to the State of Michigan Chief Information Officer (CIO) on how these changes impact Michigander’s expectations of government. Committee members are to keep up with the changing technology landscape and understand the opportunities continual technical innovations are providing to Michiganders.
21st Century State Government Advisory Council Mission statement: To positively influence the use of technology in government tools, resources and opportunities in line with emerging constituent needs.
21st Century State Government Advisory Council Vision statement: Create an ongoing dialogue between young professionals and the Michigan CIO to drive awareness of and support education on emerging technologies that can be implemented to help keep government current and accessible.
Goals:
- To create a system for ongoing communication between the CIO and young professionals in Michigan.
- To educate the CIO on emerging trends that impact the way young professionals interact with government, representing the various regional needs of Michigan.
- To build relationships in Michigan to share resources and best practices for using technology.
- Make specific recommendations on how Michigan State Government can improve operations through technology.
Key Responsibilities of Council Members:
- Serve one-year term on advisory council
- Stay up to date on emerging technologies and trends
- Choose leadership role within one of the council subcommittees:
- Meet quarterly (at least once per year in person) to provide recommendations and feedback to the CIO on the application of these trends for communication and innovation; will have the opportunity to meet in between
- Find replacement when unable to attend quarterly meetings, help recommend replacement at the end of the one-year term
Work Flow - The council meets annually in Lansing for all team members to get to know each other.
- Each Month Council members generate and share in subcommittee meetings ideas for improving State government through technology.
- These ideas are reviewed on a quarterly basis by the IT Council Executive Committee. Comments and questions will be raised.
- The five highest ranked ideas are presented to DTMB executive management by the individual(s) who generated the idea in a quarterly meeting with the IT Council Executive Committee.
